Official Vehicle used for His Holiness the Pope John Paul II’s visit to Argentina

FORD 350 1981
John Paul II’s Official Vehicle

On occasion of the first visit paid by His Holiness John Paul II to the Republic of Argentina in the year 1982, at the Buenos Aires Archbishopric’s request the Automóvil Club Argentino proceeded to prepare the body of a 1981-model Ford 350 vehicle of its own, so that it might comply with the security and image-related measures provided by the Vatican for it to be used by the Pope.

Operators from the Automóvil Club Argentino’s workshops devoted themselves to prepare the vehicle. As the job should be completed in just a few days, they worked on a charge-free basis, 24 hours a day. The cooperation provided by the metallurgic firm of Bottegazzore Hnos. S.A. and by the window-making firm of Santa Lucía Cristales should be underlined.

This Papamóvil is an integral part of the ACA’s Museum of Historic Cars and was utilized –as especially assigned to that end- on occasion of the Pope’s visit in the City of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, in the year 1988.
