Once again, Córdoba will be the scene of the Worldwide Rally in our country. Though, in this opportunity the starting road race will take place in Buenos Aires, no less than at Club Atlético River Plate’s stadium. On that date, the national motor racing will make its impact on the country and the world.
On Thursday May 3, 2007, at 6.35 pm, Argentine motor racing will show the world an exceptional event. In the “Monumental” stadium Antonio V. Liberti of Club Atlético River Plate, the ACA will launch the new edition of the Argentine Republic Rally, a round of the Worldwide Championship of the International Motor Racing Federation (FIA); as it has been done in other opportunities like that unforgettable day from last year in Chateau Carreras, Ciudad de Córdoba Stadium.
This way, a double challenge will be faced. On the one hand, by multiplying the renewed responsibility that our country assumes in the organization of the Rally, earning praise through its organizational ability year after year. On the other hand, by making the decision to go always further. This time, combining the vast and varied landscapes of our country. In some way, the spectacular roads of the Sierras de Córdoba will converge with the streets of the “Monumental” urban mass. 800 kilometres long, but the effort is worth it. These Argentine images around the world shall transmit so many current and possible things, harbouring our country’s geography and human distribution.
The magnitude of the project
When, at the end of last year it was announced that the imminent episode of the Rally of the República Argentina would be performed, the Argentine and worldwide motor racing family saw an inkling of the project to be started. That launch took place simultaneously in the cities of Córdoba and Buenos Aires with each press conferences headed by the main authorities of the organization.
On that December day, more than one unaware Club member was surprised to find in our venue of Libertador Avenue, the President of a Football Club, Dr. José María Aguilar, heading a delegation of its Executive Committee. He had not come to renew his membership or his driver’s license but to share a table in which the announcement of the main authorities of our Club would take place. Next to Dr. Aguilar there were other members of River Plate Club, Mario Israel and Héctor Caballero. The ACA hosts were Dr. Juan Manuel Sandberg Haedo, President; Dr. Jorge Rosales, Vice President; Ing. Carlos García Remohí, President of the Motor Executive Committee and Ing. Rafael Sierra. The Córdoba table, meanwhile, was presided by Arq. David Eli, General Coordinator of the Rally; Carlos Borrione, Safety Coordinator; Carlos Pascualini, Vice President of the ACA Córdoba venue and Santiago Fiore from the commercial sector of the Rally.
Of course, on the day of the launch, more than efficiency will be required to coordinate such distant press conferences. That same day all the cars shall be driven from Córdoba to Buenos Aires. The admission tests will take place in Sierras de Córdoba. On May 3rd racing cars and complete equipments must take off from the stadium in Figueroa Alcorta Avenue. In an 800 metres long track, especially built on a field where unforgettable episodes of international and local sports took place, the cars will participate of the opening. Then, flying back to Córdoba to settle in the operations centre of Villa Carlos Paz and face the mountain the same Friday 4th…

As Dr. Juan Manuel Sandberg Haedo lists in his article of this same edition, the preparation includes Aerolineas Argentina’s airplanes, buses, car-transporting pallets, lots of people working for the “Monumental” round trip, National Highway Patrol staff helping and monitoring in addition to a real automobile fleet available to all participants.
Perhaps this effort may be understood as a way to be grateful for the renewed confidence. It should be remembered that this will be the 27th edition that ACA continuously organizes. And the fact that the 2008 date is already awarded the is only shared by 8 of the 23 countries authorized to perform tests on the Rally Worldwide Championship.
