Following the long Argentine tradition regarding Sports and Gran Turismo car races and thanks to the races organized and overseen by Automovil Club Argentino through the times, this year another Argentine team will race with Ferrari. Last April, the Club introduced the ACA Argentina motor racing team. Ing. Carlos García Remohí, Head of the Motor Sports Committee of the ACA, is Sports Director of this endeavor so significant for the argentine motoring and the vehicle is a Ferrari F550 Maranello with V12 motor and 5.853 cm3.
The selected pilots make up an experienced national and international team. They are Esteban Tuero, Gastón Mazzacane, José María López and Martín Basso. They have been taking turns in accordance with the obligations of the national races they attend. In each race, the length of time requires the performance of two pilots.
TOURNAMENT DEVELOPMENT
The tournament, composed by eleven tests, started on April 20 in Silverstone, UK, where the couple Tuero- Mazzacane held the 13th position in the major category GT-1.
The second competition, with the same pilots who finished in the 10th position, was developed on May 18th in Monza, Italy.
The third test took place in Adria, Italy. The special feature of this event was that one part was developed at night and the Argentine pilots managed to arrive in the 8th place.
In the fourth test, performed in Orchersleben, Germany, the car was manned by José María López y Esteban Tuero. López started in the 4th place and kept a steady speed in the 5th position, until 30 minutes before the end they had to abandon due to a brake problem.
In the race that took place in Brno, Czech Republic, on Septembre 4th , the double composed by Esteban Tuero-Martin Basso achieved the 8th place.
Then, there was Nogaró, France on October 5th where Esteban Tuero and Gastón Mazzacane arrived in the 9th position of their class and 14th in the general position of the competition to the Worldwide Championship FIA GT.
The pilots performed well, considering the performance of the car, which was rather weak during the entire week-end. Worn tires and an excessive distance of over one second per lap between them and the leaders made the race difficult, leading to the single objective, and no other wish, of attaining the end.
The next performance of the team will take place on October 19th in Zolder, Belgium. Pechito López and Martin Basso will be competitors in the penultimate race of the Worldwide Championship and that will also be the prior step to the presentation of the category on November 23rd in the Province of San Luis.
The Ferrari race car wasn’t competitive in the former race and the objectives set for this date in Zolder is supposed to be closer to the leaders and to add up points for the championship.
