It consists in a small statue with the image of the Saint. Since 1966, this mention is given to “all the people that through the mass media, promote effectively the culture, the ethics and the entertainment, strengthening the family and the values that it represents”. During the celebration, carried out on August 31st, Mrs. Marta Raquel Gómez de González Torres, member of the Comisión Nacional of the Liga de Madres de Familia, delivered the statue to our President, Juan Manuel Sandberg Haedo, who attended the ceremony escorted by the Secretary of the Board of Directors, Mr. Jorge Rosales.

The touching celebration began with the Argentine National Anthem sung by the Pacen in Terris choir. Later on, the President of the Institution, Mrs. Marta Bianchi de Soto spoke and soon after, some members of the League delivered the 29 statues which suggested the labor of journalists, media and programs.

An award with history

On August 1965, the Liga de Madres de Familia organized the “First Seminar about the social function of TV” which was graced with the presence of many experts in the genre. Among the conclusions, one of the delegations recommended to create an annual award to distinguish the best show of the year, with the designation “Santa Clara de Asís”, universal patron saint of the television, proclaimed by Pope Pío XII.

According to what the Church has told, the denomination was decided because in her last Christmas Eve, while laying in her deathbed, Santa Clara de Asís saw clearly the midnight mass that was being celebrated by some monks, several kilometres away.

The first awards ceremony took place on August 12th, 1966 and since 1972 the prize was extended to radio, journalism, advertisement and cable TV. The winners are celebrities from all over the country and in each area there is a panel of local judges.

At present, the Liga de Madres de Familia has more than a hundred thousand members who work to achieve family’s stability and comfort.
